Original songs about religious tolerance and freedom, liberation, independence, peace, and justice -- Jeffersonian in nature.
More recent recordings of these songs, with better arrangements and with more instrumentation, can be heard at http://www.soundclick.com/Jeffers. (Click ) The songs here were his first recording attempts and are just first takes recorded in early 2009 when the now 73 year old artist's health was steadily declining. He felt he was dying, so he finally picked up his guitar again after 26 years of not playing or singing, and recorded as many songs as he could while he could still sing and play just enough to do it. Since then with a new diagnosis and medicines his health improved a bit and he can breathe a bit better, so he has been working, whenever he was able, to improve the recordings and the arrangements, and record them on a better, 8 track digital portable studio recorder. It was kind of touch and go, but when he had relatively good days he did what he could and he finally produced a better 12 song album that he is a little more satisfied with. But, even as they are the songs here also deliver an important and crucial message --- because the lyrics of the songs are even more relevant now than when they were written more than 30 years ago. Story behind the song
It may take awhile, but we are on our way -- because even though the proud, militant forces of greed and self interest fight hard to cling to power, the tide is actually turning in favor of good, humble, conscientious, generous, peaceful people. For no matter how hard the hypocrites fight for power, it is slipping away from them. Corrupt, self-important, self-righteous, bigoted people are increasingly being exposed. And we will be "sailing free" as soon as enough people get the message from the Spirit of truth, and do what needs to be done. Just wait and see. Ironically, this song was almost 30 years ahead of its time. It was written in about 10 minutes one day in 1983 while I was washing dishes, feeling very optimistic and imagining the future, naive as to just how terrible the future would become because of the forces of greed and self-interest. I knew it could get bad if Americans did not recognize what Reaganism really is and how it turns spiritual values up-side-down. I just didn't know how bad it would get. Thank goodness, now more truth is beginning to shed light and threaten the darkness. And I pray that more and more people will soon see the Light.
Lyrics
JUST WAIT AND SEE We're on our way, as it's written in the books, But I have to say, that's not the way it looks. So be careful what you pay, shun the bait on those hooks. And on one fine day, you'll taste what I cooks. Chorus: 'cause I'm bein' what I am, and it's only me. But I see our ship is comin' in, from the sea. And I'll just sing my songs, and turn the key. And we'll be sailing free, just wait and see. See, I'm satisfied, with the way I look, Kinda like Kentucky Fried, the recipe is in a book. But my time I must bide, 'though I swallowed the hook, And you can tan my hide, if I'm not a good cook. (Chorus: ....) Once I went up in smoke, to the mountain top within, And I took one more toke, tried to see the Light again. And now I go for broke, and try to have a thick skin, Kinda like an artichoke, with the heart deep within. (Chorus: ...) Well this love I feel, it will never die. And am I a heel, if my words make you cry? On an even keel, the wind will make us fly. This is the real deal, not no pie in the sky. (Chorus: ...) Copyright © 2009 - 2010 Try Try Again Project (TTAP)
