Story behind the song
I originally wrote this song for a blues band I played in, and some of the guitars in the background of this recording were actually taken from tapes of different gigs through the last couple of years. The vocal isn't really a 'keeper', but the attitude is right, so what the hell. Hope you like it. BB
Lyrics
I've played the guitar since I was ten. I've played for money; I've played for friends. I've played for women that had no soul, but now I know the ropes. I play for the blues-they never let me down. I don't have to choose- they'll always be around. So I can forget the trouble in my life, forget my job in the morning. Play for something that's true: I play for the blues. People come and people go, some folks stop to watch the show. They might like it but I have to say, they're not the reason I play. No, I play for the blues; they're always by my side. I don't have to choose, and I don't have to hide. My voice rides on the wind- Nobody hears the tune. But that don't matter to me I play for the blues. I've played the guitar since I was ten. I've played her down into the gutter and back up again. I've played for people who just don't care, but hey, man that don't bother me. No, I play for the blues, they never let me down. I don't have to choose- they'll always be around. So I can forget the trouble in my life, forget my job in the morning. Play for something that's real; play for something I feel. Oh maybe one day you'll hear me when you're paying your dues. And then you'll know why I say, I play for the blues. Oh maybe one day you'll hear me when you're down paying those dues. And then you'll know why I say, I play for the blues.
