Story behind the song
I was reminded of an old Martin Mull bit - a fake commercial for a new show called Black Vet that centered around an African-American home from Viet Nam who opens a veterinarian business and drives a black Corvette. When I saw the vanity plate on Woodhaven Boulevard, it sent my mind in this direction.
Lyrics
Kathy's X Cut off on Crossbay Boulevard G Eb Bb By a woman in a Nissan SUV I had to cut my wheel hard To keep her rear end from clipping me All I saw besides red F Gm Was the name on her vanity plate Eb Gm Kathy's X is what it said F Gm And it made me boil with rage Eb D G She pulled into a parking lot And I pulled in right behind She for a Starbuck's pick me up Me to give her a piece of my mind When she got down from her seat That piece of my mind was gone From her long hair to her feet Kathy had it all going on I stammered something lame Eb Bb Something about her custom chrome F Gm She said she'd give me her guy's name Too bad she left his card at home. We talked bout this and that Heard her story over a cup of joe Got the XTerra from her divorce When her Ex gave half his dough F D Now she's doing what she wants C Gm And she's never felt so free Eb Gm She said ,"If you coulda seen your face" F Gm Then she laughed and winked at me Eb D G She said, " C'mon check out my ride" Eb Bb And climbed in through the hatchback door F Gm Like a dog, I followed right behind her And got to know her more F D A lot happened in that parking lot Strip malls'll never be the same Now the sight of Nissans get me hot And I have Kathy's X to blame Eb D G Kathy's X Eb Bb G
