Story behind the song
I know what and who this one's about. But this ain't no tabloid paper! In short, it's about the end of a relationship, and the experience of moving out of the shared home you've built and moving on. I'm sure many can relate. The experience of sorting out old letters, old things, it feels like someone has died, and then there's that one item you find that makes you cry...One Memory Too Many. Musically it's semi-prog again. If you're a keyboard player then you WILL like mini-moog bass sounds!! Bass sequence rumbling away, set against acoustic guitar and heavy drums. It put me in mind of Queen too, Radio Ga-Ga. And the chorus is very Queen: and the middle 8 too, I wanted some of Freddie's sympathetic tones in the melody line: he could sing it better than me! Lyrics
Sorting out old letters It feels just like someone has died They may as well cos they're gone for good 'l love you forever' was just a lie Your house is like a minefield Memories are in everything you touch Everywhere you lay your eyes How did you get so much? Was it just one memory too many One more emotion too much to hide You feel like you've been stranded By love's ever-turning tide As you pack your life into boxes And the life you are leaving behind I know how bad it's hurting But there's another love for you to find You keep telling yourself it's over That's what you said and I know you try But if all this is behind you How did that earring make you cry I know this is hard and you feel lost And you want it back at any cost But if it's wrong for one don't try and fight it You owe it to yourself to find the one that's right Copyright November 2000 Lyrics by Peter Fellows
