Story behind the song
In the 70's Carl Sagan and others sent up a golden record of the Sounds of Earth for alien civilizations to find, but will they? Google for Voyager golden record to find out what on Earth this song is about... or make that what in space it's about... Chris Bakos on bass, Bill on drums, mastered by Steve Duff
Lyrics
And in a tiny little spaceship is the only reminder of the time that we had here And everything weve ever done is on a record nobodys heard A million years from now the Earth is so messed up that its nothing but a pile of rubble Thats when ET finds our record and they figure out how it plays The tiny planet with a future full of doom with a universal message to no one A lonely planet waits for someone else to find our beautiful song A golden message in a bottle floatin out to the stars into the middle of nothin All our dreams and hopes of peace on Earth are bout a billion miles away A secret code of hieroglyphic scientific emotion driftin out into nowhere. An empty space inside us all floats out to send up something to say Im sittin here on this big sphere six billion strong All these people here I sadly fear that we will not last long All these people here and it still seems theres no one around And the other worldly beings havent heard our earthly sound And its just so tragic thinking that were out here all alone So we sent out waves of sound but they will never find a home Along floating on and on It goes floating on and on

Hey there! Sorry it took so long to comment. This song is very good! It sounds to me alot like 80's alternative. Very good!! I love the guitar and the overall mix. Very raw!

Hey there Nixon, So nice to here new materiale from you. I like The Golden Record a lot. You people play so tight that I suspect you of cheating somehow ;O) The song has got some very nice vocal harmonies and I'm crazy about the punkish energi/attitute that seems to be the core of your musical style. The recording sounds really great here. To me it sounds like a live recording in a studio - very organic and well produced. Is this the final version or are you still working on it ? Personally I think the arrangement screams for a hammond organ but otherwise this song is perfection! Best regards from... Erik Oberg

Good job Kev! Sorry it has taken me a while to get back. I think this song and much of your album sonically reminds me of that old "athens" sound as well as some real pixiesque moments. I wouldn't say it is a "grunge" sound as others have mentioned, more of an eighties/early nineties alternative sound which is tops in my book. One of these days I will sit down and write a proper review. -jim

Wow, a full on grungy sort of sound, and as others have mentioned, well crafted lyrics too! Reminds me a little of David Byrne, a good thing IMHO;). Nicely done my friend, Mauri.

Great song. Love the lyrics. Great arrangement too. Sound has an early 80's punk vibe, Ramones, Hanoi Rocks etc. Like it.
