Story behind the song
Normally, I don't write so-called protest songs. However, this one kinda wrote itself. My brother Arnold and I were merely "along for the ride." Arnold is singing lead vocal.
Lyrics
RUN FOR COVER Words and Music by Arnold Patton and Ron Patton VERSE 1: Just take a look around you Can’t you really see how much the world has changed There’s a whole new set of rules for you to follow Stop what you’re doing and learn a new game Don’t you believe everything you hear CHORUS: RUN FOR COVER - get yourself straight RUN FOR COVER - before it’s too late RUN FOR COVER – ‘cause time doesn’t wait RUN FOR COVER - before it’s too late You’ve been holding out for a brighter tomorrow Wall Street bankers stealing everything, everything And we’re bailing them out Everyday is such a struggle Just to grab a bit of a toehold Who’s gonna save us from our self-destruction When all the judges are filled with corruption Ohh - VERSE 2: Our parents told us if we all sacrifice We could build ourselves a much better life Their generation is a thing of the past What dreams they’ve got are breathing their last Climate changes bringing hurricanes, hurricanes Makes you run hot and cold You work two jobs to buy what you need But your debts are an extra mouth to feed Run for cover - to get yourself straight Run for cover - before it’s too late BRIDGE/SOLO: You’re seeking shelter from the storm That’s where you want to be Keep your head above the water And don’t forget to breathe Run for cover - Run for cover REPEAT CHORUS Copyright © 2008 Patton Brothers (ASCAP).
