Born Poets is a poetry forum with emphasis on respectful but thorough critique. Until now, we were limited to the written word but it was decided that it would be both helpful and entertaining if we could also hear each other's poems as well as reading them, so we have set up this page for our members who wish to have their poems heard as well as read. It's not impossible that some of the poems will be accompanied by music too, as many of aour mmembers are also musicians. If you like what you hear on this site and want to find out more, please feel free to visit our forum at http://bornpoets.proboards23.com/ If you're a poet yourself and would like to share your works with us and maybe have your poem featured on this page, please feel free to joins us, we always welcome new members. But please bear in mind, this is a critique based forum and whilst our critiques are always friendly, respectful and thoughtful, it's not the place for you if you don't want critique on your poems. But we're a friendly, if slightly mad, bunch and there's always room for one more!

Story behind the song
This is a slightly altered version of a poem I wrote as a result of a friend telling me that he was dying of cancer but wouldn't bother to have the necessary treatment because it would be easier to just accept his life was over.
Lyrics
All That's Left Is Me This is me ... kind of, sort of me Occupying space where I’m meant to be Lying on the branch of this gumyum tree Answering questions I cannot really see But not me, actually, not in a sense Putting on the cloth and making a pretence Brain wrapped in cotton, peering through a fence Coming over dazzled, nebulous and dense My body then? Could be, I don’t rightly know Recognise the scars - well, those out on show The stuffing knocked out like the lumps in a dough And all those blurry edges between yes and no My face, then? Smiling through my pain Manners I suppose, run deeper than the grain "Sorry for the trouble, I’m perfect in the main" Grin and bear, hooded stare, convince them all I’m sane Yesterday - was it? - you went and lost control Someone offered death, you blithely rushed in to enrol Never mind the left behind, you take care of your soul Tomorrow I will find a way to climb out of this hole Hey! Damn you! (pardon me, I’m doing it again) I haven’t got the wherewithal to mourn for selfish men Seems to me the Reaper’s sword was mightier than the pen But still I would have fought your fight, if you’d said where, if you'd said when So yes, This is me ... kind of, sort of me Occupying space where I’m meant to be Lying on the branch of this gumyum tree Answering questions I cannot really see, I cannot, I cannot, I cannot really see.

Dawn, This is a very moving poem, and you do a wonderful job with the recitation. It's easy to hear the emotion in your voice as I read through the lyrics. The intensity of the subject really comes through , a very difficult subject that you have expressed so well with these words. They are finely crafted without being over done, something you do again and again flawlessly. A very moving piece. The backing music is lovely as well, and suited to the words, it doesn't get in the way at all, but compliments everything very nicely. Well done.
