Singer/songwriter 'story' song. The musicians who participated in this felt it really hit home with them.

Internationally recognized, prize-winning lyricist well-versed in cabaret, indie, folk, country, showtunes and several other genres.
I am the Grand Prize Winner of the 2007 International Songwriting Competition for my collaboration with Eduard Glumov, "I'm Not Your Friend." We also won First Prize in the Rock/Alt Division of the Great American Song Contest. One judge called it a prime example of "world-class songwriting" and said the images in the were "often stunning." I'm a lyricist and have been collaborating with musicians from California to Kazakhstan, over the Internet. The fruits of that collaboration are found here, and at . While the winning song was a hot funk-rock song, with a compact streamlined lyric, I write in several styles. I've chosen "indie" as my genre, but I write anything from cabaret to country, and am looking to work with musicians and composers of all stripes. Currently I'm finding writing partners here in my home town of Philadelphia.

Story behind the song
The title suggested a song immediately. It took a while to get the story just right -- to keep the tone a little light at the beginning and not reveal what's really going on until the bridge. AJ Spinella loved the lyric, really responded to it, and put together this demo at Musicians' Collaboration. The musicians all felt it "struck a chord" with them, identifying with the characters. Guitar/Vocals: Anthony J. Spinella Orchestration (piano, harp, etc.): Jay Schankman Bass: Preston Miller Drums: Jerry Langenfeld Final Mix: David Timson
Lyrics
OUT IN THE COLD Lyrics Copyright 2006 by Z. Mulls (v1) She hasnt come home yet The girls and I play in the snow Temperature in the twenties Like it was a December ago Throwing snowballs and shrieking Raising holy hell We hardly notice How far the mercury fell (chorus) Cause Out in the Cold Its warm The temperatures barely felt Out in the cold Its warm Enough that a heart can melt When youre with the ones you love You can weather any storm Its warm Out in the cold (v2) Amys halfway through fifth grade Always got her face in a book Kate is sure shell find dinosaur bones If she finds the right place to look They grab my hat and go running Playing a game Putting it on the snowman And calling him by my name (repeat chorus) Cause Out in the Cold Its warm The temperatures barely felt Out in the cold Its warm Enough that a heart can melt When youre with the ones you love You can weather any storm Its warm Out in the cold (bridge) She comes home and apologizes for being late Tells the girls to go inside and walks me to the gate All of the tensions come flooding back All the suspicions, and the lines of attack (v3) We review some arrangements I leave before starting a spat The snowman waves in the rearview Standing guard with my hat Every year they get older New line are crossed I wait out the winter Fighting against the frost (new chorus) Out in the cold Again Surrendering by degrees Out in the cold Again Enough that a heart can freeze When you miss the ones you love Every hour feels like ten Again Out in the cold
