Story behind the song
Jay had the original idea - here's what he says: Featuring blistering lead guitar work by Paul Oakley and some damn righteous orchestration and choir arrangement by Art, this track fulfilled another fantasy of mine. I've lusted after that symphonic metal sound with a full choir backing, and this song totally delivers the goods. Art, Paul and I are all guitarists, which you'd think would be a recipe for an ego disaster, but both Art and I knew Paul's contributions would be stellar, and stellar they were! Art managed to compose some frightfully dramatic orchestration and choir arrangement that still, even after what must be hundreds of listens and dozens of mixes, gives me that all-telling goosebump flush. And me? I got to go all James Hetfield with all of this, more than happy to be the rhythm guitarist. My symphonic metal masterpiece. Booyah! Lyrics
(A note about lyrics. Choirs traditionally sing in Latin, making the words less important than the passion in the voices. Art fashioned the lyrics to give a new, almost hidden, meaning to the song.) I journey into the night alone The moonlight settles my spirit and soul. As I rest Dreams come to truth. The cold whispers of wind echoes in my mind I am born into this new found discovery. Blood and ashes take my life away from me A god of destruction have I become Dark desires of power in my kingdom I ascend to death eternal Angels fall, fall from grace The glorious king of my fathers land Has corrupted all that was pure by his evil hand. Once a man of integrity He has become our enemy Can't you see? Come to me my hopeful dreamer I will grant all you desire My shameless insanity.
