Story behind the song
The song was originally written in 1986 , but 15 years later we decided to get it demo'd and both the writers remembered th words and music 15 years on almost word and note perfect. The song is reflective but highly melodic with interesting harmonic movements - enjoy and any comments are gratefully appreciated
Lyrics
Those Nights We Had You captured parts of me I was blind but don’t you see You were more than the world to me You were everything love could be Those nights we had We’d laugh, we’d share it in every way The morning, the night, the day Those mind games that we’d play One look, you knew what to say Those nights we had Those long hot nights we had Trumpet Solo So how could it go so wrong We’d been lovers for so long But I felt that I didn’t belong Like the words of a jaded song Those nights we had You’d smile, the sparkle was in your eyes Their innocence held the lies But nothing you did could disguise The feelings you felt inside Those nights we had Those long hot nights we had Trumpet Solo You captured parts of me I was blind but don’t you see You were more than the world to me You were everything love could be Those nights we had And now it’s a year since you’ve been gone Who cares who was right or wrong I’m learning each day to be strong But the memories linger on Of nights we had Those long hot nights we had © Tim Lea /Andrew Merricks 2001/2002
