Broken Promises (Vocals by Leslie Craig)
Broken Marriage. Vocals by Leslie Craig
I am a songwriter. I do not sing on any of the songs posted. I find singers to sing my songs. I am interested in writing Christian and Country lyrics.
Story behind the song
I was inspired some words that my wife had said a few years ago about how I wasn't the same guy that she married. I decided to change but this is about what would happen if changes aren't made.
Lyrics
Broken Promises
(Marvin Lane/Nashville Song Services)
(verse)
When we first met, you were the perfect man
You said all the right things, when our relationship began
You cared about my feelings; you seemed to understand
You knew how my heart felt, so I gave you my hand
(verse)
We courted forever, at least it seemed that way
I was so excited, for that very special day
It was a grand celebration, attended by many
We were so in love, we were so happy
(Chorus)
Broken promises; are all that I have
I thought I had a marriage, but it was all just an act
The words didn’t mean anything, when you said I do
Now I’m all alone, because our marriage is through
(verse)
But that didn’t last, you seemed to have changed
You wouldn’t have known, that vows we exchanged
You took me for granted; I wasn’t a wife
I was just there, for your afternoon delights
(verse)
I didn’t see it coming; I should have seen the writing on the wall
It was so obvious, that our marriage was destined for a fall
Your words always hurt me, I felt unworthy of love
That’s when I decided, that I had had just enough
(Chorus)
Broken promises; are all that I have
I thought I had a marriage, but it was all just an act
The words didn’t mean anything, when you said I do
Now I’m all alone, because our marriage is through
(verse)
The nights may be lonely, but they are so warm
I’m now protected; I’m safe from the storm
My self esteem, has finally come back to me
I now have myself; I’ve gained back my sanity
Broken promises; are all that I had
Honesty and truth are now what I have
