A song about breaking free and being true to yourself; with piano, drums, fretless bass, organ (all sequenced), plus acoustic guitars , harmonies and lead vocal.
Gospel, spiritual.
It's not a band as such, more an idea...and a very vague one at that. I write songs as Al Stravinsky and post them on here (www.soundclick.com/alstravinsky), but some just don't fit with the other stuff I do. The spirituality feels more at home here, in its own space. I've recently remixed these - please tell me what you think.
Story behind the song
We are all wrapped in chains and held down by chains of one type or another; some for our own good, some for the benefit of other people. We must first see them, feel them, and recognise their purpose, before we can be truly free from them.
Lyrics
Verse 1
For too long I've been restricted
By the shackles that hold me down.
For too long I have hung my head,
Might as well be dead and in the ground.
I can see a way to be free,
And the horizon is where I want to be.
I can feel the power within me,
I must believe in me,
And seize my freedom!
Chorus
I will break free from these chains
That I have carried all my life.
How good will it feel to lose these chains -
Listen to them falling,
I hear them falling away...
Verse 2
Your albatross ideas and millstone expectations
Have encumbered me for all my days,
Like an anchor on my ship of aspirations,
You tied me up and down but now I'll sail away.
Dangerous and stormy is the way that lies before me,
But liberty is where I want to be.
I can feel the power within me,
I must believe in me,
And seize my freedom!
Chorus
I will break free from these chains
That I have carried all my life.
How good will it feel to lose these chains -
Listen to them falling,
I hear them falling,
Listen to them falling,
I hear them falling away...
...falling away...
