The Ocrastra; a musicians' collective set up by Seamus Gavin to record the album Justice. The core of the live band is myself, mandolin; Seamus, guitar vox and harmonica and his son James on fiddle. We have been playing the north London folk scene, on the bill with Andy Irvine in Letchworth and we recently played the May Fair at Wivenhoe.

Story behind the song
The war in Bosnia, particularly the Srebrenica massacre.
Lyrics
WAR c S.Gavin 1999 There is a war; What they're fighting for Is a mystery to me. A thrill to kill? Some graves to fill? To hear the battles roar? Gone raising Cain for needy greedy gain? To settle some old score? We win, give in and don't you dare do that again Or sanctioning begins, Yeah... Let sanctioning begin. Inflicting pain on some imperfect strain, Is an ethnic laundry. Srebrenica's fate sealed by love o' hate And sanctioning the seed. They lied to hide this frantic genocide, and call it victory with pride. We win, give in and don't you dare do that again Or sanctioning begins, Yeah... Let sanctioning begin. Well I've had enough of that patriotic puff As sales an' rockets soar. A dollar more for some well suited whore Whose i.d. we ignore. Ive heard it read, sometimes even prayed Go glorify the dead But to applaud some ageing raging god Perpetuates the fraud. In peace, In peace, So long, long may they rest, Scar backs to the west, With scarred backs to the west. There is a war and it's right outside your door, A sanctuary no more, no... no more. In peace, In peace, So long may they reign....
