This was the original finale of my first produced musical MAKIN LIGHT, except that the stage version segued to a reprise of the opening number, THE LIGHTS OF ANOTHER CITY, with sadder-but-wiser lyrics.

I love writing songs that capture strong feelings I’ve had about a time, person or place, and that wrap you in those feelings with a sumptuous arrangement and much to surprise the ear. I’m drawn to seductive rhythms and sophisticated chords, and themes of longing, carnality and joy. I want my listeners to be astonished!

Story behind the song
I wrote this song after my freshman year in college, when I found myself still on campus after most of my friends had left. It was definitely a different place without all of the people Id come to love there, and it wasnt anywhere I wanted to be.
