Selene was the Titan goddess of the moon. She was depicted as a woman either riding side saddle on a horse or in a chariot drawn by a pair of winged steeds. Her lunar sphere or crescent was represented as either a crown set upon her head or as the fold of a raised, shining cloak.
Sometimes she was said to drive a team of oxen and her lunar crescent was likened to the horns of a bull. Selene's great love was the shepherd prince Endymion.
The beautiful boy was granted eternal youth and immortality by Zeus and placed in a state of eternal slumber in a cave near the peak of Lydian Mount Latmos. There his heavenly bride descended to consort with him in the night.
Lyrics
Comes the night
the journey beckons
her golden light
radiates & quickens
The hunt is ended
a darkened cave
just as intended
for to him enslave
Oh, two worlds collide and never part
What future then for these two hearts?
Bound forever
he'll never leave
no-one can sever
as to each they cleave
Their love is deep
and forever young
but eternal sleep
is the song unsung
Oh, two worlds collide and never part
What future then for these two hearts?
Given that I will dare to see the explanation
of why this love should just not be
Things that I doubt believe us
things that are frightening
just based and held on "two can"
Titans are everywhere
but they cannot compare
the younger are keen to take control
Sing it around the earth
Olympians take their perch
It's not the way to end this,
a way of passing through.
