Story behind the song
The ultimate prize is a song written by two friends and college classmates. The song is intended to express the intimacy that can only be shared when two individuals are truly in love and give all of themselves and inner-being to the significant other. I would like to especially note that the songwriters were never lovers but collaborated on a shared idea of what real intimacy should be like. It was written during a time when sex was replacing intimacy and HIV/AIDS was becoming common place. The "ultimate prize" was intended to express that sense of true oneness that can only be experienced when each partner is selflessly engaged in the other.
