If it's hot then give God the glory. If it's not then blame me
If it's hot then give God the glory. If it's not then blame Mitch.
I'm Joe Johnson a local United Methodist Pastor. Before I felt God calling me into the ministry I thought I was going to be a rap artist. For 8 years I did nothing with music until my wife introduced me to a group called "The Gospel Gansters" in 1998. It was an eye opening experience. I was amazed to see people using rap for the glory of God. That day I picked up paper and pen and I haven't put it down yet.
Story behind the song
I wrote this as a rap from a poem years ago, but I thought it would also make a nice song.
Lyrics
Master’s Hand
The auctioneer knew at once that it wouldn’t sell
Looked at the old violin and said “Oh Well.”
Good folks who’ll start the bidding for me?
A dollar, I see two! Will you make it three?”
Three dollars going once, three dollars going twice
Cuz When the gavel falls tonight, it’ll be the final price
Three dollars, going once; twice; but before it was gone
A man came forth asked the crowd please hold on.
Wiped off the dust and tightened up the string
Held the violin with hands of love and made it sing
The music ceased, and the crowd grew still
And up and down each back there ran a chill
The auctioneer cried “What will you give for the violin
one thousand 2 thousand, 5 thousand, I see 10
10 thousand going once, 10 thousand going twice
Cuz When the gavel falls tonight, it’ll be the final price
10 thousand going once twice gone, and sold!”
The crowd cheered for the violin though worn and old
What changed the worth of that old violin
it was changed by the touch of the Master’s hand.
I’m thinking many of our lives are out of tune
by self-indulgence, and sin come loose and ruined
it’s true, what you sow you shall also reap
and end up like that violin going cheap
Well we’re going once, and were going twice
Cuz When the gavel falls tonight, it’ll be the final price
We’re going once, going twice, but before the gavel falls
God picks us up and does something that marvels all
We don’t deserve the credit, we’re just sinful man
But what can be done with us … in the Master’s hand
O Master Please use me
O Wont you Please use me
When no one else in the world my worth can see
O Master Please use me
