Self-penned songs - rock, pop, country, electric and acoustic. Despite the name, the Footnotes is a one-man band with various named collaborations.
The Footnotes................. We're rock, we're pop or country. We're electric, acoustic or classical. We're anything else that might have been. We're also mostly a one man band. or try for my other band.

Story behind the song
They needed a song for a Christmas song competition. I wrote this.
Lyrics
Oliver Cromwell banned it you know Around the same time New England did too Is it Christmas feast Or supping with the beast Pagan religions, or properly spoke All of the others except for the Pope's Had plenty to cheer at this time of the year Eventually somebody said to the king There are pagans out there who are still having fun Our people are miserable here is my plan Let's borrow their festivals, call them our own The king he agreed and said let's pick a date But what shall we tell them that we celebrate At this time of the year It's not really clear The birth of our Lord said the man of the cloth The date's never mentioned in our holy book So let us pretend and tell them it's so And Latin's our friend, so they'll never know After the solstice, the shortest of days the symbol of birth is what we will praise for the start of the year will soon be here The fact it's a fake is something we'll hide With feasting and gifts they won't know that we lied about how it began and the truth it will pale The anagram man is just a twist in the tale

Nice Tune! A true account of all the hyperbole we know as the holidays. Oh well. It's still nice to party in the darkest time of the year.

Oh, this is nice! A cozy, little Christmas tale, about one of the big lies that we don't give much thought in our daily life. But it should be said out loud, if for nothing else, then for the purpose of letting peole know that they should always check a story before accepting it as a fact. Sadly, this seems to be forgotten in these FaceBook times... Wonderful lyrics and superb vocals, Tim. Loved this!
How to make history fun: let Tim at it. Huzzah! What a jazzy, snazzy tune.
