Original Blues, Rock & Country for the Soul
Story behind the song
A song for Dexter; a beautiful senior pit bull who had endured years of neglect and cruelty until his guardian, Tyler Nasise, adopted him and gave Dexter a life worth living in his new, happy home in USA.
Tyler told us Dexter had inspired people to adopt a pit bull (one of the most abandoned types of dog in America) and several people had changed their perception of bull breed dogs because of Dexter.
Sadly Dexter passed away on 9th August 2015 and below is the link to Dexter's facebook page if you would like to follow his story.

Lyrics
'Dexter's Song'
You were a hero to me
A big strong part of my family
You inspired so many to see
The truth behind the treachery
Your courage was loving and kind
You took the hard knocks without anger
And left all the sorrow behind
Your strength and endurance was stronger
You were a pit bull in a bad man's world
They tried to break you into dust and dirt
But you showed everyone the good is real
And in the meantime you healed
I found you needing a true friend
The shelter walls were your prison
Something so wrong was behind you
And without ears, you listened
I took you far from the darkness
Only intending to help you
And you got into my heart, you
Then I was lost, everlasting…
You were the beauty in an ugly place
Where mankind's fault was your suffering
And all I noticed was your brave, sweet face
For you caused nothing but trusting
We had so few years but we won
We put every bad day behind us
You, me and Smokey and home
Nothing could come between us
You felt the pain but you beat it
I was your buddy, your best friend
Boy, what a dog, you succeeded
We stayed together until the end
You were a pit bull in a bad man's world
They tried to break you into dust and dirt
But you showed everyone the good is real
And in the meantime you healed…
You were the glory when the world is wrong
They tried to break you but you just held on
And you showed everyone the truth to come
And I remember your love
And I remember your love.

So many emotions evoked in this story/song. Dexter, having been to hell and back, was at least one of the lucky ones who finally got to experience love and safety. The song shares the story so very well...loved the intro with that 10 note or so lick that the melody builds off of throughout. Great dynamics, lyrics full of empathy and compassion, and an arrangement that highlights them so well. Fine playing and vocals, your usual trademark. Great job guys. Dexter would lick you!
