Story behind the song
Inspired by two bullfrogs who took up residence behind the house, on opposite sides of a fence, and began calling to each other all night. I didn't know which was the boy frog and which was the girl frog, but I did have a good idea what they were discussing.
Lyrics
[4/4, mod. tempo blues] THE FROG NEXT DOOR (2007) –J. Wrabek [THE RAP: This is dedicated to the two bullfrogs that took up residence out behind the house–on opposite sides of a fence–and were calling to each other all night. I don't know which is the boy frog and which is the girl frog–it's hard to tell with bullfrogs–but I did have a good idea what they were talking about..] 1. D Behind the 6-foot fence that I can't climb is a little girl bullfrog that says she's mine; G D All through the night she calls to me, promisin' Heaven if I just set her free; A She says "I've laid these eggs and they're meant for you"— D A D I got the girl frog waitin' on the wrong side of the fence line blues. 2. I can't see her face, but I can hear her call, and I believe I love her, warts and all; She’s spreadin' pheromones all over the place, right through the fence that I can't break; Tellin' me all of the things she's gonna do– I got the girl frog waitin' on the wrong side of the fence line blues. BRIDGE: G D Every night when the sun go set, I can hear her callin' from her lily pad, G E A And I pray to God to give me wings to fly, So I can see my baby on the other side... CHORUS: D I curse that fence that keeps us apart, and hides my girl and breaks my heart; G D I can't dig underneath ‘cause my hands ain't tough, can't jump that fence–I ain't strong enough; A I got Paradise callin' and I don't know what to do– D A D I got the girl frog waitin' on the wrong side of the fence line blues. INSTRUMENTAL BREAK (IF ANYONE CAN PLAY LEAD) BRIDGE: Every night when the sun go set, I can hear her callin' from her lily pad, And I pray to God to give me wings to fly, So I can see my baby on the other side... CHORUS: I curse that fence that keeps us apart, and hides my girl and breaks my heart; I can't dig underneath ‘cause my hands ain't tough, can't jump that fence–I ain't strong enough; I got Paradise callin' and I don't know what to do– I got the girl frog waitin' on the wrong side of the fence line blues.
