Some exciting Greek Mythology: the story of Icarus, a kid who did not pay heed to his Dad's warning about flying too close to the sun. Bummer. For the Greek Myth CBC

Welcome to the music of Carlo D'Anna's Ridiculous Dream music. Also known as "Dream Warrior" in some circles. Influences and music styles ranging from basic to progressive rock, with definite Retro seventies sound. If you enjoy the sound of Moody Blues, George Harrison, Genesis, Dead Can Dance, and others of the same style, more or less, you will probably like this music. I use quite a bit of Mellotron and acoustic fingerstyle guitar as well.

Story behind the song
Daedalus is a brilliant inventor—the Thomas Edison of his day. Unfortunately, he angers King Minos, the ruler of the island Crete, and he has to hightail it out of there. Desperate to flee the island, Daedalus uses wax to build some wings for himself and his son Icarus. Daddy Daedalus warns his son to fly at a middle height: the seawater will dampen the wings and the sun will melt them. (Not good either way.) Icarus heeds his father's advice for a bit, but then he gets cocky. He's having so much fun flying that he forgets the warning and flies too close to the sun. Sure enough, his wings melt, and Icarus plummets into the sea and drowns. Daedalus is (of course) devastated by his son's death, but the show must go on. He flies on to Sicily, where he mourns Icarus and builds a temple in honor of the god Apollo. However, in my version, he lives and has to do menial work to pay for his passage to get home, which he never does, and settles down in Sardinia or some awful place, gutting fish or something for the rest of his life, while his Pop thinks he is a goner.
Lyrics
My Dad is a busy bee, he's gonna make a set of wings for me Then I guess we are set to fly Not too low and not too high I'm a kid, and this I know Very brave, but a little slow Dad does get just a little pissed, his advice I always dis How would I know it would be so much fun, to soar over sea, so close to the sun, and now my wax in my wing is done...and its melting. Grabbed at sea and now I'm stuck scrubbing decks to make a buck fell a little short like a ton, now I've learned a hard lesson.

It never even occured to me to put lyrics to a story from mythology. Very, very creative! Had you written and recorded this in the late 60's early 70's you could have made millions! Great music and "story telling"!

I'm always very curious what you are doing with the theme. It's Rock this time and feels like a stream that leads you away to a fantasy. A very strong atmosphere and a very good production/arrangement. I like your vocals too. Nice!

One of my hands down favs of the evening. Brilliant presentation, can envision this tale being passed along for generations in just this manner. A modern psychedelic edge as well as a wonderful timeless traveling minstrel vibe. Love this thing!

This is really good Carlo; the 'psychedelic' guitar solos are spot on (you know I'm a big fan of that kind of thing), you've created a very memorable song here. Yep, it's a must have.
