Story behind the song
I wrote this song during my senior year in high school but I recently re-recorded it as a tribute to my cousin Ira, who took me to a Pink Floyd show, which encouraged me to explore my honest and complicated feelings about conflict in the world, in our country and in our homes.
Lyrics
Absolute or not at all Standing on different sides of the wall Evil empire or free-for-all In your corner it’s fight or fall Conservative or on the edge Between extremes, we drive the wedge Go ahead, see what you want to see I’ll do the same, we’ll disagree We’ll drag bystanders in Find out once and for all who will win Come on let’s blow things out of proportion Leave no vision free of distortion Let the pendulum tell its tale Alternating sides will prevail One impropriety And we’ll wipe out your society Wage war or fight for peace Either way, the arsenals increase Flesh or soul, whatever we can buy Is ours to destroy or to watch it die The time has come, it’s you or me Innocence won’t lead to victory Human bullets from my smoking gun We’ll load it up with life until we’ve won We’ll drag bystanders in Find out once and for all who will win Come on let’s blow things out of proportion Leave no vision free of distortion Let the pendulum tell its tale Alternating sides will prevail One impropriety And we’ll wipe out your society
