“My survival instincts have allowed me to stay strong and continue my dream of success.” These are the words of up and coming DMV artist Blackstone. “I want to people to relate to what I do as an artist. I’m in this for the long run, not just for a brief moment of fame.” Making music is like a best friend I can always express my good times and problems to. Being an artist that was born and raised in the Washington D.C., and Maryland urban communities, Blackstone has seen his share of challenges. This has not stopped him from competing with other local artists who hold the same goal that he holds. That goal is to become successful in the music industry. He has set himself apart from the rest by continuing to strive and push for that goal by all means necessary. Not just by chasing that all mighty dollar. He has exposed himself as an artist through charity events, productions, and shows. “My missions in life aren’t easily broken because my thoughts are as solid as a rock; anything is possible you just got to have heart”! This shows true when it becomes known that Blackstone has gone as far as to create his own home based studio. Here he strives and works to make immaculate music that has helped him become well known in the D.C. area. Working with his brother, Dwight, they have been able to do part time record engineering. The equipment that they have invested money into has proven to be a smart investment. The artist, whose real name is, Damien, created his first song at the age of 12. At this time he started calling himself Blackstone. His meaning of Blackstone is a strong Blackman surviving the struggle, pushing to make it over the hump. Surviving in the urban community of Capitol Heights, M.D. seemed to be no challenge for Blackstone. “He was able to maintain my street credibility, but school was always first.” Graduating at the top of his class was only the beginning of the successes for the artist. “Blackstone has always been his name as an artist, but anyone who has watched me grow up knows him as “Day Day”. He feels strongly about staying true to those who have been there as he has grown into the strong minded and outgoing individual that he is today, so he hopes someday be recognized as Day Deuce. Blackstone aka Day Deuce has made 12 CD’s and counting. He has a library of unreleased material. His first release titled “Remain Da Same” hit store shelves in 2004 and there were plenty after. In 2009 he plans to reclaim his mark in the Metro Area and continue to push for national exposure. Blackstone has plans to release a new CD in September titled “Driven 2 Advance”. He has performed in NC, MD, VA, DC, Chi-town and more. Making his mark in both New York and Miami Blackstone has won the National Music Conference 2 consecutive years in a row.
