It's a little bit tongue-in-cheek based on some of the things I would have liked to have done myself in a 'perfect' relationship but I had an idea it might work from the opposite angle! You decide.

It is for listeners to decide how they would describe my music when they have a chance to hear a range of material. I've only just started recording. Keep watc
I played bass in a band at Walbottle school, the T-set, with Dave Robinson from Throckley, Bri Swanson, Lemington, and Ken Wright, also Throckley, and started writing songs at this stage. I continued for a while in Dobbin with Bri and Ian Shield, also of Lemington, doing vocals and bits and pieces under Bri's direction - and did more writing. We also did a couple of them together. I then spent a few years concentrating on work and family, with some more writing in fairly recent times, until the lure of performing again (since 2005) became too much to resist! The songwriting had to go on hold for a while as I continued to work full-time until Oct 2010 whenever possible but I have written a few new songs over the last couple of years such as 'Butterflies'. See more details below and check for regular updates.

Story behind the song
There's no drums or bass on this so please look at it as an (almost) acoustic version. I managed to get a couple of pals together one session and we did a quick version of this with me on vocal. Harmonica legend IR threw in his own excellent mouth-work after I'd got AM to play a few chords I'd put together in some fashion to be a country song. The idea for the lyric came from some thoughts I'd had in 2008 and I was prompted to finish the song for an event in 2009. AM added some lead guitar and we did the backing vocal together for a middle 8. In this version, that is my only contribution to the recording. I began to take notice of a new female singer on here a few months ago and after we'd established some rapport in the usual s/c way, I decided to stick my neck out and ask her if she'd be interested in singing a Country song she'd never heard! And the first I'd written in that genre. I took the opportunity of asking a good friend of mine that some of you will know - Dan - to comment a while ago on my version of the song and he gave me the support I needed to push ahead. The instrumental version has already been grabbed by the country radio station here, although there is never any 'conversation' between us. Please enjoy this version and both Mary Clare and I would appreciate your time in leaving comments reflecting your personal opinion.
Lyrics
You didn't walk me home from High School, the way that lovers should. You never came around to my place, if you only could. You never took me to the dance floor, or offered me a drink. You never kissed me on the lips, I don't think! When you went down to the record store, you never offered me a ride. It wasn't just the fuel, it was more about your pride. You didn't tell me that you loved me - as much as you should have! You weren't on my mind as I slept, I must have been too tired. Things may come and go and winds may blow, But I'll be here even if you have to go. There are plans to make, our future's at stake, you know...... I'll put my arms around you and never let you go. Instrumental as verse with lead on top I took you off my friends list but you still came back for more, And you know that I'm a country girl but you want me even more, I didn't dream about you last night or the night before..... Oh, but every waking moment, I dream about you.

Hi Pete, that song isn't bad. You need to do a new mixdown and some drums and bass, then it's perfect...

Pete, Thanks for the heads up. This song has potential. Once you record it with bass and drums I feel it would become a keeper. Mary Clare nice job on the vocals! And nice guitar work Pete. I understand about the production needing a brush up, but bravo on the concept. Keep up the great work. Lee
