Born Philemon Smith, a 21 year old native of Tuskegee, AL, also known as SOLO, is an upcoming artist that's been making moves on his own since he was young.
Unsigned to a label yet, Solo's career is still launching. Self promoting his name and music and partnering on different projects with artist in the game or on the rise like himself; Solo is determined to prove the music industry that he isn't just a rapper, but also an entrepreneur, who doesn't believe in working for anyone your whole life. "I'm starting a new club in my city, Club Solo. I just want to bring more to the city, in order for a city to rise, it has to be one person to stop downing and uplift it," he says.
"I'm just coming out and this is only the beginning, but if you go anywhere in my city," says Solo, "my singles has been getting positive feedback and motivates me to keeping moving . Now my music is spreading in parts of the north and the west coast. I'm ready to make worldwide hits."
Meanwhile, Solo is earning a living working like an everyday business man. As determined as Solo is to become a music star and leave behind a legacy, no one will get in the way of him fulfilling his dreams.
Solo's career started to take off late 2011, when he collaborated with Darren Brown, producer and founder of BrownTime Productions. Solo speaks of Brown, "He's a leader, like me. We learn from each other. In order to be a leader, you have to start your own movement."
Solo fell in love with how he mixed his words. "At the age of 14, I was writing short stories and writing and reading poems. Some of the stories I let teachers read and they always loved them. So writing comes easy for," he explained.
In 2010, Solo went through a life changing experience. It wasn't until 2011, when he decided to incorporate what he had been through into music. "I was in the studio morning, day, and night," he says "it was home for me. Whether I was in the studio broke, hungry, or restless, I was there. It wasn't easy. The hardest thing in life you can do is change, but it was for the best."
Solo states, "I make relatable and fun music. Relatable music is music that regular everyday people in the streets can vibe and ride to. I speak on situations that I have been in and situations someone else is in or have been in. People don't want to hear music that's full of lies or listen to someone who is there just to get music sells. I have a story to tell. When you listen to my songs, you'll understand, I don't talk it; I live or have lived it! It's music with no restrictions."
