Shanti Arielle Skidmore, referred to as Shanti Arielle, born May 18, 1992 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana) is an American singer, songwriter, producer and emcee. Raised in Baton Rouge, Skidmore enrolled in performing arts programs and first joined singing and dancing communities as a child. On her rise to fame today as a successful solo artist, she is heavily influenced by some of the world's best-selling musicians of all time (such as Stevie Wonder, Prince, Beyonce, and Amy Winehouse just to name a few). Shanti Arielle has already released 3 projects (Pink Nail Polish, Charging, and Elephant Gun) and counting, including the favorites “Hipster Hooptie”, “Raise Your Hand”, and “Cuttin’ Heads”.
Skidmore’s music is generally contemporary R&B, but she also incorporates pop, electropop, funk, hip hop, and soul into her songs. Skidmore possesses a soprano vocal range that spans more than three octaves. She composes and records all of her own music which is autobiographical or taken from her friends’ experiences and female-empowerment works. However, most recording artists do not formulate beats for themselves, and only few typically come up with melodies and ideas during production, Shanti Arielle does it all. She has also received recording credits for works by poets Donney Rose, Chancelier “xero” Skidmore, Jonathon Brown, and Chelsea Lynne Murry.
Apart from music, Skidmore has also ventured into other forms of self-expression such as fashion design. She has earned her cosmetology license from The Aveda Institute (concentrating on hairstyling/ makeup artistry). Her poetry performance in Baton Rouge’s All-City Poetry Slam in 2010 earned her 1st place to the Brave New Voices International Slam Competition in Los Angeles, California.
