I was born in Long Branch, New Jersey, but raised in Columbus Ohio. My full name, Kai, is a West African name from the country of Ghana and means “loveable” in the Yoruba language. My middle name Mariama means "Gift of God".
Growing up, I was trained in classical piano and voice and took classical piano lessons from age 7-21. During my undergrad at WSU, I continued taking music courses, but also found myself really interested in Sociology. It was not long before I made Sociology my final major. One accomplishment of which I am most proud is that 1995, I was one of 10 students selected across the United States to win a grant from Amnesty International to conduct research regarding the death penalty, human rights abuses, and crime.
I have sang at many venues which include: The House of Blues, San Pedro Brewing Company, The Roxy, The Knitting Factory and Whiskey A-Go Go. Currently, I enjoy performing as a special guests with various Los Angeles based reggae bands.
