I started playing guitar at the age of 8. I was introduced by my grandmother's cousin. He had an old acoustic guitar that hung on the wall, and I would just sit and stare at it, wondering what it did, until one day he gave it to me. First song I learned before knowing it was a song was 'Crazy Train'. I took lessons for about 2 months before my instructor had moved. Only thing I learned was how to tune my guitar and string it. I learned a few songs, but I didn't want to learn out of a book. After my instructor had moved I constantly listened to the radio (Houston's 94.5 The Buzz) and would try to match pitches with the people on the radio. I did this for a while until someone told me that learning my scales would have a major impact on my playing. I would practice my arpeggios, scales, and chromatic exercises until I was introduced to tablature. As far back as I can remember, I almost never used tablature to play something, but I used it if I couldn't find the right pitch on the guitar. Now days, I am taking lessons from my local college to read music and apply it on the fretboard and to learn classical guitar techniques.
