Antonin Dvorak would have been my neighbour, if I just lived fifty years sooner. Contrary to me, he was the master of harmony ,instrumentation, composition and of superb timing. I just would like to be the ink on his music sheets to live for ever. Deep in a shadow of his shoes is maybe a little space for me. I don't want to write about myself, especially now in my age.Everything I could talk about, happened ages ago.The giants of music business I met in my life are long gone. If I have to write down all what happened to me, there would not be enough time and space. Music is the main thing in my life which has any meaning.I love many styles of music, but the older I get the more I am coming back to classical music and more serious composing. As a young man I made a living with music and show business and I traveled a lot, screwed my first marriage because of it and so on. I have written many songs, some made it pretty good and being still played. Some I forgot long time ago and they never gonna be reborn. I remember I wrote my first one as a little kid in 1943.Naturally my mother loved it (as every mother should) and I had to play it on the piano and sing it.My father was an opera singer and therefore I wanted to be also an opera singer and conductor. Those times I knew in details all parts (mainly tenor)of operas Toska, Pagliaci. Carmen and others. Those were the the times. The picture is taken last weekend, the old one was a 20 years old lie.

About a month ago I came across a movie posted on You Tube,a movie I acted as a young boy. This movie is made by Czech Film Industry. The name is Zelená knížka which means Green Book.I created English subtitles after few weeks of very ntensive work.Maybe this movie is not up to today's standard, but it's something to leave to my grandchildren. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQSKkdy4mJc

This i posted as my introduction as a new member of website OPERA LOVERS Hello everybody out there.I am new here, but not new in this world. On a contrary, sometime I thing I overstayed my welcome. In my younger years I spent quite a lot of money on opera.I was used to fly from Toronto for afternoon matinee at the MET.I saw Carrera in Toska and La Bohem, before his fame.I saw our Canadian Teresa Stratas in La Bohem,I saw Tatjana Trojanas and Renata Tibaldi ,also Carlo Bergonzi.I called on top of my voice “Bravo Lucianooooooo”,till i was afraid they throw me out.I met Elisabeth Soderstrom and many others. There were the crazy years. You see I was a opera brat in my childhood. My father was an operatic tenor in National opera in Prague, than Czechoslovakia.

My first performance on stage was as the kid who runs on to the stage and screams “People run away the bear is lose"in Bartered bride. The only problem was that I tripped and lost my balance and zoomed head forward almost to the orchestra. I still see the fear in the prompter’s eyes as I was speedily and gracelessly approaching. But I delivered my line and brought the house down. But this is only rambling of an old man. My main question is about the future of opera composing in this century. And here comes my punch line. I composed an opera based on life story of Michail and Raisa Gorbachev and I have a permission from Moscow office of president Gorbachev to publish this work. The libretto is written in English and in Czech. But in this World economical situation I have only a chance to have this opera performed post mortem. Which is not bad. Cause I will be in the same boat with much bigger guys than me.(or than I?)

This morning I had a bit of time left from my crazy schedule,so I decided to add one more of my songs from my musical "Girl next door".It is a thought about our existence in this crazy World of ours. I called it "BY chance"It is not meant to offend church goers and it is not meant to offend anybody's believes.OK

I have decided to add songs which I made for my musical Girl Next Door. This musical I have written some years ago, but I am not sure about the time capsule I set the story in to. The original is set in to era at the end of Vietnam War. The same time when I was living in New York. I realized, that now we are having two dandy wars and the issues are more or less the same. So I am thinking about reworking the whole scenario to fit in to to-days happening. The songs Girl next door,Requiem for heroes,Stairs to paradise and New life are from the musical.Otto

Hello my friends, hello, I miss your writing thou, I like to hear commends and critic, it doesn't have to be specific promise to write ,just tell me so. I finally posted my opera Misha,The Gorbachev Story. As I told my friend Vikki on our site Songwriter 101,I had a problem to get a decent singer for the female parts,so it's not that good.A very good soprano,a friend of our family promised to record it ,but she got an engagement and had to decline. Also I realized that the recording takes a beating by transformation of up loading.I found out that I am missing a lot of base.I also made some crude sketches for each of the scenes, just to give a hint of what is going on.Please have o look at that (I mean listen to it) and tell me what is your impression.A young conductor of a very famous opera house told me,that it doesn't qualify as an opera and that the English is bad.
