hey !
my name is Christopher Stewart, but you may call me Chris.
Poligraf is currently hibernating, and probably not coming back to life, at least for the foreseeable future.
still, i have been writing new material steadily since the band was last active, and i plan to use this outlet to promote music old and new as it gets recorded and produced.
expect a mix of songs and instrumentals influenced from progressive rock and which have been written for Poligraf, singer-songwriter tunes that are closer in their essence to folk-rock or even pop, pieces for solo classical guitar, and occasional electroid experimentations.
hope you enjoy the ride !
My Music
Monthly Release : One Of A Kind
Jun 9, 2020
The belated Monthly Release for April 2020 is One Of A Kind. Right from the get-go, I should warn those among you who have been following my activities and are aware of my leanings towards progressive music, that they might be disappointed to learn that this release is singer-songwriter material, of the acoustic folk-pop variety. This is not the kind of music I had intended to release this early in the adventure, but considering the unexpected circumstances I find myself in at this time, I'm glad to be able to offer it now. Essentially written in one day in March 2013, One Of A Kind is an upbeat folk pop summer song about meeting someone who turns out to have special significance in one's life, and eventually becoming so close as to form a kind of unit with them. Ultimately, it's also about how every encounter, whether apparently desirable or otherwise, actually contributes to one's growth and to finding one's place in the grand scheme of things. The track is available for streaming and download via Bandcamp : https://poligraf.bandcamp.com/track/one-of-a-kind Lyrics and credits can be found over there. I hope you enjoy the song ! Thank you for your support ! You're hereby invited to subscribe to the Monthly Release Club to instantly get every composition I release, along with Club Exclusives and bonus materials such as demos, videos, lyrics and other works in progress : https://poligraf.bandcamp.com/monthly-release-club Among other privileges, Club Members have access to the contents of the Upcoming Releases and Creative Process series at least one month before the general public.
Starscaping Video
Apr 8, 2020
The Starscaping visualizer is available via YouTube : https://youtu.be/atSi2vIuq-c Again, and this will most probably apply to all the chapters of Written In The Stars, this is a video for the single version of the piece. Once the recording of the whole suite is complete, and assuming that the resources allow, the plan is to translate the storyline into a film of about 30 minutes in length. In the meantime, i hope you enjoy the single version.
Monthly Release : Starscaping
Mar 31, 2020
The Club release for March 2020 is Starscaping. The opening chapter of Written In The Stars, the piece is essentially an introduction to the whole suite. A slow crescendo that begins with an atmospheric impression of an evening in nature, the composition presents the sonic elements that constitute the auditory experience throughout the whole storyline. Soundscapes, sound effects, and electronic drum sounds augment the typical progressive rock instrumentation as the music builds momentum and reaches its culmination, setting the scene for the narrative to begin. It is available for download via Bandcamp : https://poligraf.bandcamp.com/track/starscaping
Stillborn: Video Available Now
Feb 25, 2020
The video for Stillborn is available via YouTube and Vimeo, and also here on SoundClick : https://youtu.be/z2O_TlZlN8E https://vimeo.com/393769522 This is a video for the single version of the piece. Hopefully, when the recording of the whole of Written In The Stars is complete, and as means and resources allow, a proper conceptual video, or more likely a short film, will be released. At least that's the plan. Meanwhile, i hope you enjoy this temporary version.
Monthly Release: Stillborn
Feb 23, 2020
The Monthly Release for February 2020 is Stillborn. It is available for download via Bandcamp : https://poligraf.bandcamp.com/track/stillborn The piece is the second chapter of a longer composition called Written In The Stars which loosely tells the story of a person mourning the unexpected and untimely ending of an undertaking that was very dear to them. In the storyline, the function of the piece is to suggest the dramatic event that led to the grieving process, the unsuccessful endeavour which is symbolized by a stillborn child. The chapter sets the scene as the protagonist, having left the city at the end of day, muses about the deceased infant while getting ready for a lonely night of mourning in nature. The music strides forward as the protagonist transitions from a city dweller frame of mind to an introspective state, all the while advancing deeper into the wilderness. As the piece concludes, memories give way to reflection as the griever becomes enthralled by the surroundings and the starry skies. At its origin, back in July 2017, the composition was intended as an experimental research and development exercise, with the aim of reaching new creative spaces. The composition blends stylistic elements borrowed from many genres ranging from urban to progressive. The music strides forward to the beat of electronic and acoustic drum sounds, and is augmented by excerpts of poetry readings. There's also a Stillborn video coming up soon, but before i can publish it, i need to compile a list of attributions for the materials that went into its making. Hopefully i should be done within a few days. I hope you enjoy the new music !
Chris, how the hell are ya? Just popping in. Giving ya a listen as soon as I finish this message. Hope all is well. Gary
