Being with my mom in Arizona is wonderful. It is healing for me in a way I can't explain, nor could I have understood before I arrived here. I think, in a way, it is because being here I have to accept that this is real. In NC, I can forget that my life has changed so dramatically. But here, there is no forgetting. There is no denial. There is no ignoring. Here, there is an all-too blatant, gaping void where my dad once resided. I am seeing firsthand, feeling, his loss. He is not here, in this house, in this life, as he once was. As he was a mere month ago.
