Dru Hepkins is a musically diverse songwriter who coined his genre as Urban Progressive Rock. He's a singer, composer, song writer, producer and musician. In his solo projects, Dru writes all of his music, sings all his music including the back-up vocals, and he plays all the instruments himself.
Dru began performing his original compositions since 8 years old. Also as a child, he was chosen to act and sing the lead character (Solomon) in a children's musical book-tape called "Solomon's Great Adventure", by Mike White. In the second series, Dru co-wrote 2 of the songs. In high school and college he was a track and field star who still devoted most of his time to writing, recording, and performing in venues like CBGB's, The Baggot Inn, and Downtime in NYC.
In 2005, 2006, and 2007, Dru Hepkins won awards for VH1's Songwriter of the Year Awards in 3 different categories.
Dru spearheaded a band called "The Phinks", in which he was the band's bass guitarist, song writer, and producer. The Phinks eventually disbanded amicably after lead singer, Tyra Juliette, began to gain national exposure in both P. Diddys "Making the Band" and Fox's "American Idol", and as Dru simultaneously began creating a path for himself producing and writing for various artists and projects.
Dru Hepkins wrote, produced, and released his own album "Declamation of Useless Genius" in 2007.
Dru Hepkins also wrote and performed the vocals for songs with legendary Grammy nominated house DJ, DJ Disciple and released various House songs through Catch 22, Nets Worth International, and Vendetta Records. Songs "When I Die" and "Red light" are already underground favorites played in clubs all over the world. Red light (DJ Disciple/Prok & Fitch remixed by Alexey Romeo and Anton Liss) featuring Dru Hepkins was picked by Roger Sanchez as the "Hot Download" on Roger Sanchez' 'Free Yourself' radio show in 2009.
Dru Hepkins has traveled the globe with Essential Entertainment as video host to the hottest exclusive underground parties and events in the company of the world's best DJ's like Paul Van Dyk, Ferry Corsten, and DJ Sasha. You can find footage of Dru Hepkins with the aforementioned DJ's at www.youneedtowatch.com. Also, Dru's music can be heard on numerous web series produced by Essential Entertainment, spearheaded by acclaimed videographer, Marko Albrecht.
In 2009, Dru Hepkins was a featured producer on Buzz TV and remixed Lupe Fiasco's "Day Dreaming" and 50 Cents "Technology" featuring Justin Timberlake.
Dru has signed a publishing contract with Banshee Music along with various marketing companies and continues to release songs for placement in video games, websites, commercials and movies.
Dru will appear DJ-ing his own music and hosting a charity event on The Real House Wives of NYC in March 2011.
