Headend is a modern progressive rock band from Philadelphia who released their debut album 'sensoria' on October 7, 2008. The music is often called "progressive" in that it often wanders through a number of different melodic themes within one track.
The pieces tend to be anywhere from seven to fifteen minutes in length. The nucleus of the band is comprised of Joe Halgas (drums, percussion, bass) and Ray Bontempi (guitars, bass, keys, vocals). All of the songs on the album were written and recorded by Ray and Joe.
During live shows, Headend often improvises long "explorative" sections of the studio tracks, making each performance unique and different from every other. The band is preparing a series of shows in early 2009 to support the release of the album.
