Story behind the song
"Don't get old!" my parents always admonished me. I tried to obey them, but this one is beyond my control.
Lyrics
I CAN FEEL IT FROM HERE Things always came easy, Or they didn’t come at all. Life was bright and breezy, Endless summer; never fall. Now, I’m in the old folks’ choir, A bald head among bald heads. My hair chose to retire And move further south instead. Not so close to Death, But I can see it So clear. I’m not that old yet, But I can feel it From here. Took one day at a time; Never needed more than that. Felt I was in my prime; Never thought the earth was flat. Now, We’re not talking Venice Or the Golden Gate Bridge, pals. Just trips to the dentist, Partial plates, and root canals. Not so close to Death, But I can see it So clear. I’m not that old yet, But I can feel it From here. We live orderly lives Right into Eternity. Everyone even dies Alphabetically. We struggle and we strive - Defeat upon defeat. We manage to survive, And that’s always puzzled me. Now, I suffer from hearing loss - Too much Poison, Motley Crue, Zeppelin, Skynyrd, and The Boss. Now, they all sound like the …. Who?? Not so close to Death, But I can see it So clear. I’m not that old yet, But I can feel it From here. Copyright © 2006 Lex Zaleta
