Story behind the song
Tom wrote and recorded ALL the music for this, and I liked it so much that I took it upon myself to fill the vocal void (nobody else was going to do it, and we hadn't picked up Taylor at this point) Lyrically, I decided to keep things literal concerning the content to facilitate the writing process. The intent was to come up with the patterns and then the lyrics. That they resulted in such compatibility from a first draught grossly inflated my ego, and bestowed upon me a mighty erection. Which I have to this day.
Lyrics
Death circles high above; Carried by iron wings. The air itself begins to scream As horror is unleashed. No sirens sang of shelter A city unaware No pleas to gods were worded Because none of them were there Generations erased Victory demands A price be paid With no concern For life taken away A faceless toll Someone elsea€™s problems Someone elsea€™s war Something on the TV Thata€™s not cared about anymore Someone elsea€™s story Someone elsea€™s pain Tragedies past Coming to pass again A plague of burning agony Afflicts malformation to their flesh No respite from oblivion Corruption inhaled with every breath Therea€™s no one left to bury Only dust and ash Everything burns Dust and ash The city now a ruin Reduced to dust and ash A million lives erased They are dust and ash
