Story behind the song
From a series of songs that make up 'La Reverie Triste de Fidélité Lune'. This one is about a tree with lichen on it. (Hey ho.) These songs are more pastoral, poetic and ethereal than my usual efforts. ;-)

In your coat of verdigris
Lichen is your second skin

Oak and algae and fungi
Life joins hands in symbiosis
Mesmerising green hypnosis
Such colours as:
Black, bronze, sage, gold
Flame, wine, tea, pearl
Form a roughcast sombre spectrum
Boughs strummed by the zephyr’s plectrum
Lichen, kindly parasite
Tree, thou agèd anchorite
No harm done in this invasion
It’s an eloquent equation
Your union vegetal is alien
To this maladroit mammalian
Here, fey phantasms find asylum
Forcing waves of will through xylem

Façade too subtle for my eyes
