EROXION
“Beautiful Reality” are two words that come to mind when describing the light haired girl standing front-and-center of the alternative rock group Eroxion,
[pronounced ee-‘rho-zhun]. Lead singer Heather Jacks grew up in one of the greatest cities known for it’s musical influences, Memphis TN. “For as long as I can remember I have been surrounded by music. My father was a 70’s rocker, so I basically grew up in the studio and backstage” says Heather. “Whether it was the bass guitar, piano, or drums I wanted to learn to play it”. As with many young artists, her first public performance was at church. “I got on stage, made up my own song, and received a standing ovation” From that moment on she took any opportunity to perform. “In front of two people or three hundred, it did not matter, I just wanted to sing.”
Her first paying job as a singer was at the only music based theme park in Memphis. The performance schedule of up to five shows a day with additional rehearsals was the perfect opportunity for her to cut her teeth as a performer. As she developed as a performing artist, her songwriting continued to develop as well. It was during this time that she realized the importance of the song’s lyrical content. “Lyrics tell it all, the good, the bad, and the ugly. I’m real, and I write and sing about real things that people go through. Real people hurt, real people heal. Rock music needs thatreality”.
Daring enough to make music their own way, the band finds their sound where they feel it. Anchored by guitarist Andy Gurley, who has shared the stage with such notables as Steve Vai, and Eric Clapton, along with bassist Tracie Ferrie and drummer Tom Hoey, Eroxion has created a 21st century rock version of the “Wall of Sound.” You won’t find any smoke and mirrors here. “This is our live sound captured to disk,” says Gurley.
Heather’s strong and in your face vocals easily carry the weight of some serious lyrical content that can be at one moment solemn, and just as quickly turn quite severe. Supported by the band’s high energy, yet dynamic backing, this uninhibited submission to the music quickly sets them apart as a musical force to be recognized.
Eroxion (ee-roh-zhun) n. The wearing away of the soul’s surface of emotion by any natural process. Eroxion may occur unexpectedly in the human soul and may continue to take place until all that is left is raw reality. The chief agent of eroxion is an unexpected life-change; good or traumatic. Heather Jacks
