One small boy
on a hilltop
flying a kite
into the clouds

Santa riding a great white bear
that's what the cloud looked like
bracing against a static line
tying kite to hand
lost in sight
in hours above the earth

round earth, twirling, spinning
revolving through space
Milky Way, sun,
took a turn to the south of him,
space shuttle, rushing...

Implicit in that moment
caught, framed, and glassed
the many shapes of love
are still;

but still magic as Santa's logo
vulnerable as Christmas
lifts higher than boy and line and sight.
