Story behind the song
song written to the old poem 'Alice' by (the old poet) Alan Tate
Lyrics
Alice grows lazy, Mammoth, but not fat; She climbs upon her lost And twilight age; Above in the dozing leans a bickering cat, who quivers forever in his abstract rage. Whatever lights wait on the perilous gates, forever sways over the arching grass; caught when the world clattered undulate, in the deep suspension of the looking glass.
