Indian Summer was formed in the fall of 1992 and has undergone some excellent growth in the years that have followed, performing folk-rock and americana Indian Summer was one of the first bands of the Alternative Americana genre that emerged throughout the Midwest. They opened the door for bands such as Son Volt, Old 97's, Wilco and The Jayhawks, founder Rick Droit coined the phrase "Americana" when referring to it as a new music genre as early as 1990, The Boston Globe and Dirty Linen Magazine both have cited that Rick Summer Droit has been very influential in creating the Americana music genre
