Story behind the song
Everyone is familiar with John Stainer's verson of this song, found in his cantata, "The Crucifixion". But few are familiar with the Lloyd Larson setting. A favorite of the director, the music and words dramatically complement each other to bring out the true meaning of those familiar words found in John 3:16-17.
Lyrics
God so loved the world, that he gave his only son; that all who believe in him should not perish. God sent not his son into the world to condemn the world; but to save the world and grant eternal life.
