Story behind the song
This song was written and recorded during a 30 hour blizzard at my personal studio in the Oregon Cascade Mountains. I mounted an array of 1000 watt par 64 cans outside of the picture windows of the control room. High winds during the storm created a multitude of swirling snowfall patterns. Like driving through a snow storm the flakes illuminated by your headlights as they raced toward you have a mesmerizing effect. The difference here was in being stationary. Interestingly, if you watched any particular area for more than a few seconds you could discerrn a pattern. Everywhere you looked was a different pattern. An amazing adventure for me. Because of the lighting... the contrast between pure white snow flakes and the dark of night outside those large plate windows, I became aware I was witness to Intelligent Design. When I viewed one area of the wood as an individual vortex it was cool but only to a degree. Add one to another, to another, and on, made me think of an orchestra, all played out for me on a stage only a couple acres square. Individually of minor consequence, each part of the 2 acre wood was actually an integral and necesary part of the picture as a whole. This inspiration is played out in sound in "Stormwatch" as it occured to me. The random audio patterns prove themselves as anything but when viewed as a whole song. As an uneducated musician this was a very cool growth session for me. When the storm had finally passed there was five and half feet of snow and this song left in it's wake. The picture is called 3 Sisters... 3 summits I saw everyday to the west of my studio. bf
