The final dance of a porcelain ballerina, caught in a blazing inferno. Imagine her inert, dusty form in a burning attic. Then imagine her alive, twirling one more time on an operatic stage consumed by flame...

Story behind the song
In the beginning there was a piano sample... like with all of our songs. It was waltzy, but up-tempo; to my ears it sounded like a ballerina's final, desperate dance. In the end it turned into an orchestral composition featuring a dying clockwork ballerina's last dance.
I'm particularly proud of this song because it might be the most compositorially ambitious I've undertaken thus far... not necessarily pertaining to the vocal parts, but in the instrumental arrangement. Refer to www.soundclick.com/joki for the instrumental version -- and enjoy!
Lyrics
-Verse I-
[Today my story ends]
The clockwork has run down
The final curtain's fallen
A porcelain heart lies broken
In fragments on the ground
[Today my story ends]
Cold grief robs all my sense
[today it ends!]
...my final dance!
No succor and no flight
From the despair inside
No second chance
...my final dance!
Firebirds singing
Gracefully spinning
The dance of the ages in my flying feet
All the flames surrounding me leap with me!
-Prelude-
Borne on the ghost of a memory
The orchestra still plays for me
Never thought the darkness was so bright
As velvet curtains in the firelight
All the flowers wilted long ago
Slowly all the gilt has faded
Chandeliers have dimmed and souls are jaded
Through these cleansing flames I, too, will go
I dance the tight-rope in this final show
And all the walls surrounding me are crumbling
Like snow a thousand music sheets are tumbling
A ghostly choir sings from long ago...
-Choir-
[5x 'Do not die']
We all need you
We beseech you
Lonely souls
Hear - us - sing!
Don't give in to
The temptation
Death's romance...
[Here I dance!]
Soar on higher
Burning fire
Licks white skin with
Blazing tongues
Ivory face
Beauty and grace
Will soon be gone...
[I'm undone!]
-Verse II-
Today my story ends
[No, all this beauty cannot be lost forevermore]
Today my story ends
[I cannot leave you in solitude forlorn to die]
One last time I fly!
Nothing more makes sense
[everything ends]
...my final dance!
I step out of this life
[Turn back! There's still time!]
It's time to make my stand
[and face the end] [do-not-die!]
...my final dance!
In beauty I will die
At last my soul will fly
-Farewell!
