Hog Time Music is the creative outlet of Ralph Goff. I write most of the songs and record them in my home based studio, Hog Time Studio. I'm backed up on many songs by my long time musical partner and friend, John Jett, playing banjo and resonator guitar. John is also the artist of the Hog Time Music drawing. I primarily play acoustic guitar (1969 Martin D18, Taylor 812C and 1963 Gibson Southern Jumbo), and add some fills with mandolin on some songs. In addition, most vocal work is by me. Computer generated drum and bass is also used on some songs.

Story behind the song
I started with the guitar riff and then one verse popped up in my head and I built on the theme. The funky sounding guitar is a circa 1940 cheap archtop with years old strings.
Lyrics
© 2004 Ralph Goff www.HogTimeMusic.com RIVER, OH RIVER ============ Been laying here listening to the wind and the rain all night I’m starting to get worried, but I ain’t gonna wake the wife Then something doesn’t feel right and I get up to check the sky Oh Lord we’re in trouble the river’s way too high We get to the front door then she turns back Says she’s gotta get the pictures, but it’ll be real fast I wade through the knee-deep water to higher ground Then the house starts floating, but my baby’s not around Now I’m sitting on the banks of the muddy, muddy river tonight It done rose up and ruined my whole life House and the wife gone God knows where Worried 'bout my baby, so I’m kneeling down saying this prayer [Chorus] River, oh river, I hope you didn’t take her She’s the only thing I love She’s the only thing I’m living for If you’ve got her, please give her back Need my baby, but you can have my old pine shack Sheriff drives up and says “Jake you better come with me” “There’s something down the river that I think you ought to see” I get in the car, heart thumping in my chest My head’s spinning ‘round and it’s hard to take a breath Sheriff stops the car and I get out. Boy I’m shook. He pulls back the sheet and I force myself to look I want to shout. Lord, I want to scream. It’s not her, I can tell by the wedding ring. [repeat chorus]
