Story behind the song
In may of 2010, Nashville was flooded on an extremely destructive level, which people may remember, but two other, non-related, destructive events occurred around the same time, which only locals, truckers, and typical route users, like myself, will remember. The first was a landslide on hwy 64, on the Ocoee river. Next, the flood. A few days later, a sink-hole descended on interstate 24, between Nashville and Chattanooga. A lot of people wrote songs after the flood, mainly about charity and spirituality. I was somehow more effected by the sink-hole. It was the straw that broke the camels back. The ground.....can just disappear! Seems like as humans we are not yet able to predict and/or prevent natural disasters. So, while also in the midst of a recession I am attempting to restore my favorite, classic, 4-wheel drive, midsize suv. In this economy its easy to lose motivation on such a project, but knowing what kind of fun my son and I could someday have in this antique gives me a will. Knowing if it comes down to having to drive off road or through water we will be prepared, because my Early Bronco will give us a way.
Lyrics
I don't mind the way you look confused
Wondering why I do the things I do
It's a beat-up pile of rust
Why you want to fix that up?
Cause it's an old dirt digger dressed in style
And its a good time to be alive
It's a good time to own a four-wheel drive
Cause you never know when the road will wash away
And you never know when the trees are falling down
Its a good time to have four wheels on the ground
I was born in the northeast Georgia hills
And my old 4-wheeler is down there still
We used to race to the river and back
On an Appalachian moonshine track
And I felt bad for kids from the city
It was a good time to be alive
It was a good time to own a four-wheel drive
Cause you never knew when the road had washed away
And you never knew when a tree had fallen down
It was a good time to have four wheels on the ground
We might drink the planet dry of all the oil
And there might be some laws that we ignore
But you're my only son
little man we're gonna have some fun
And its good to keep your spirit wild
And its a good time to be alive
It's a good time to own a four-wheel drive
Cause you never know when the road will wash away
And you never know when the hills are sliding down
Its a good time to have four wheels on the ground
Its a good time to have four wheels on the ground
Four wheels on four wheels on
