Story behind the song
Keith suggested writing another song and asked me if I had an idea for a title. I recalled that John Lennon was inspired to write "A Day In The life" after reading some news articles in the Daily Mail. I said to Keith, "Look in the paper", hinting that a news article may trigger a suitable idea. He went away and came back the following day and announced, "I've managed to come up with a song!" I asked what he had called it.
"Look In The Paper", he replied.
Lyrics
Look In The Paper
I look in the paper and what do I see?
I see your picture looking at me.
When we broke up it broke my heart
Cos I thought that we'd never part.
But you got a taste of the glitter and gold
So you said goodbye and left me in the cold
I look in the paper and what do I see?
I see your picture looking at me.
You're hitting the headlines,
It's right there in print.
You're making a name
And you're making a mint.
On magazine covers,
The star of today,
You're making it big,
You got so much to say
I look in the paper and what do I see?
I see your picture looking at me.
Your beauty is boundless, your looks are so fine
But I just can't help it, I wish you were mine.
I've written you letters, I've longed for your love.
I once held your hand, now I cling to your glove
I look in the paper and what do I see?
I see your picture looking at me.
It says in the paper
You're doing just great
You don't look so happy,
I guess it's just fate.
You mention my name
As someone you knew
The only person
Who wants you for you.
I look in the paper and what do I see?
I see your picture looking at me.
I look in the paper and what do I see?
I see your picture looking at me.
