Story behind the song
Lady Louisa Gordon (later called Miss Farquharson of Invercauld) A very nice strathspey by William Marshall (1748-1833). At about twelve years of age he entered the service of the Duke of Gordon. As composer he became a great favourite with the members of the Duke's family. Marshall was dubbed "The first composer of strathspeys of the age” by Robert Burns. Ross’s Reel no. 4 William Ross (1823 -1891) born on the Black Isle in Rosshire, Scotland, was the piper to Queen Victoria from 1854 until he died and was buried at Windsor In 1869, he published a collection of pipe music, over 400 tunes, one of which we play here.
