Story behind the song
This song was originally penned 4 years ago when I was listening to an old Skynard song, "Curtis Slow" I always liked that song even though it always felt kind of......racist. I'm an "old blackman" that plays the blues too but I always feel that color should never influence the words and meaning of a good song. "Sweet Home Alabama" could have been written by an african american just as easily as it was by Ronnie Van Zandt. Anyway, with the advent of MLK's holiday this year, I just wanted to create a song and lyric that somehow ties that Southern Rock flava' to the premise that color should form no boundaries and all people experience the same feelings, desires and sentiments across the color bars. We should always just be the best "me" we can possibly be so that collectively, "We" will be a great people, a great nation-a great world we all can share. That is the story of this song. : )
Lyrics
Me.......Epilogue by A. McLeod III I heard a white man singing a song about a man named Curtis Loew Said he was one of the finest black guitar pickers the world would ever know. Couldn't understand why it would make one difference if he's black or if he was white "Cuz if the song was good and it came from the heart then everything was gonna' be all right Chorus That's why I'm gonna' Laugh when it's funny I'm gonna' cry in the rain I'm gonna' scream "My Lord" to the heavens above Cause I can see another sunny day I'm gonna' fight when it's right I'm gonna' teach the babies well I'm gonna sing my song and do a whole lot of living indeed...... 'Cuz it's all about being me Well later that year around 76 came the day that Ronnnie died And in the sky they flew that ole' confederat flag A lot of very good people cried But blood is warm; blood is red no matter what skin your in And though we're different colors, up there in heaven Ronnie and Curtis are singin' again Chorus That's why I'm gonna' Laugh when it's funny I'm gonna' cry in the rain I'm gonna' scream "My Lord" to the heavens above Cause I can see another sunny day I'm gonna' fight when it's right I'm gonna' teach the babies well I'm gonna sing my song and do a whole lot of living indeed...... 'Cuz it's all about being me Chorus That's why I'm gonna' Laugh when it's funny I'm gonna' cry in the rain I'm gonna' scream "My Lord" to the heavens above Cause I can see another sunny day I'm gonna' fight when it's right I'm gonna' teach the babies well I'm gonna sing my song for the whole damned world 'Cuz it's all about being free I'm gonna' laugh I'm gonna' sing I'm gonna' love Cuz it's all about being me
