Story behind the song
It's all about working in the mines. I was a miner myself for ten years before I upgraded my education and became a Funeral Director. I frequently visit graves of men killed in mining accident in the Timmins cemetery and forgotten in time. I guess song writers like me don't want these poor souls to be forgotten. And most miners I know and knew liked beer. I remember the Springhill Nova Scotia coal Mine disaster. Musicians: Dan Loyer on Steel, lead guitar and vocals. Terry McCann played the harmonica. Buddy McCann on percussions.Ted Gerow on piano. Recorded at Ambience Recording Studio on Rideau Street, Ottawa ON. Canada
Lyrics
Coal Minin Blues I was born one day in a small town shack By the river near the mill My daddy worked in a coal mine Sweatin hard to pay the bills They called us the river rats The high society did Yes they did yes they did Yes they did Chorus: Workin in the coal mine Don't see much light of day Workin in the coal mine livin day to day I got dem coal minin blues Verse: At age sixteen from a childhood dream That seems like yesterday I was lured to work in the coal mine It's in your blood they say Now there ain't no doupt dust'll burn me out And in time will destroy me Yes it a will yes it will yes it will Verse: Now when I die don't fret for me And please don't bury me Just pickle my body so the boys can see What minin did to me But before I go let me buy those boys Just one more round One more round one more round One more round Chorus: End.
