Story behind the song
I wanted to write a thriller song (like a Stephen King kind of song). I had a concept of the moon acting as some kind of watching eye or moral consciousness to which people feel accountable. One of the two "blind eye's" of the story. The turning away of this eye causes a merge of the two concepts of justice and vengeance.ccccBut - enough with the metaphor. I also just wanted to try to write a good story. Enjoy!
Lyrics
"There's no moon out tonight," he saidcc"Anything can happen next."ccThe bear spattered off his breath ontoccThe bareness of her legs.ccOn a ledge above the city lightsccA violent heat began to riseccHe wrapped his hands around her neckccTo pull her close for a kissccccThere's no light up in the skyccNo god in heaven lookin' downccTo stop what grows between two loversccRolling on the groundccIt's just the skin beneath his clothesccIt's just the man beneath his skinccShe can look into his eyes and seeccThe monster man withincccc"I think I drew first blood," she saidccAs it trickled down his chinccThere was an ecstasy of rageccAnd a want behind his grin.ccHe ripped the buttons of her shirtccMy god! he was going to make this hurt...ccBut everything went cold when he feltccThe steel diggin' in his ribsccccThere's no light up in the skyccNo god in heaven lookin' downccTo stop what grows between two loversccRolling on the groundccIt's just the gun within her fistccIt's just the fist within her willccHe can look into her eyes and seeccThat she came here to killccccTo drunk to run, he tries and fallsccWith his face up to the skyccShe stands over him like a tombstoneccThe gun pressed in the hollow of his eyeccUnder the gun, he wonders which one ofccHis skeletons came to callccBut it doesn't really matter when the hammer fallsccThe way judgment falls on everyoneccccLet the blood be on her handsccLet it blister in the groundccShe walks off into the nightccAnd no one even hears a sound.
